The 3 new books of the collection Africalia Editions [photo] are the subject of an issue, entitled “Une Afrique sans clichés oscille entre présent et passé” *, in La Libre Culture, the cultural supplement of the newspaper La Libre Belgique, published this Wednesday, the 9th of July.

Journalist Karin Tshidimba presents the work and the artistic process of Sammy Baloji, Calvin Dondo and Julius Mwelu. These photographers originate respectively from Lubumbashi, Harare and Nairobi, and maintain a strong relationship with their city and its inhabitants. This link is clearly visible in their pictures as a large number of them immortalize these cities as well as the men and women living in them. Through these artists with different backgrounds and approaches, Karin gives us an overview of contemporary photography in Africa.
