It is with great sadness that we announce the premature death of Kiripi Katembo Siku.

It is with great sadness that we announce the premature death of Kiripi Katembo Siku.
Like every young artist, Kiripi had many projects in his mind. But these projects were no idle talk. Kiripi lived his dreams and he may, wherever he sees them now, be proud of them : the first edition of the Biennale in Kinshasa in 2014 was set up under his initiative. He also took an active role in the "Beauté Congo" exhibition at the Fondation Cartier in Paris.
At Africalia, we knew Kiripi well, we have enjoyed his company and his work while preparing the edition of the monograph "Transit - DRC" dedicated to him. This book was designed as a springboard, as a way to reveal his promising talent. Today it can be seen as the trace of a too premature tribute to the talent of an artist who still had so much to say and to show.
36 years… It was far too early for a monograph. He was regarded as the young brother of many Congolese artists, both in the visual field as in the world of speech and writing.
Today, the Congolese cultural scene and the art world lost one of their children. Africalia joins his family, friends, all those who crossed his artistic career and his path to express our sadness and sympathy. Rest in peace, Kiripi, and take beautiful photos wherever you are.
