ZIMBABWE

It is generally felt that the Culture and Creative Industry in Zimbabwe is fragmented, economically challenged, and suffers from weak strategic vision and governing structure.

This challenging socio-political situation in Zimbabwe complicates the working conditions of Africalia’s partners. Resulting from this challenging context and because Africalia wishes to align as much as possible with the priorities of the Belgian development cooperation for which Zimbabwe is no longer a priority partner country, Africalia has therefore decided to phase out of Zimbabwe during a period of three years. During this period, Africalia will focus on further strengthening the partners so that the results already achieved are anchored sustainably and the partners can continue autonomously

The first partner, Nhimbe Trust is a registered Zimbabwean non-profit and non-governmental advocacy organisation based in Bulawayo (Matabeleland), that is working at the intersection of culture and development to foster economic and social justice in Zimbabwe.

The second partner, Afrikera Arts Trust has been running a professional full-time 3-year contemporary dance school and studio in Harare for the past years, specifically targeting youth and upcoming artists and trainers from disadvantaged communities.
