Creativity for Developement

Within the framework of the bilateral cooperation program 2019-2023 between Belgium and Burkina Faso , Africalia has signed a cooperation agreement with Enabel Burkina in the implementation of the cooperation program focused on security led by Enabel and reinforced by the expertise of the cultural sector of Africalia.

The overall objective of the bilateral cooperation program is to contribute to the economic, social, inclusive and sustainable development of the Central East region. Nevertheless, it was observed that the achievement of this objective requires first of all the maintenance of political and security stability in the region and sub-region. Indeed, these regions are exposed to particular forms of crimeś such as armed attacks, drug trafficking, drug use by youth, and cross-border crime. In addition, the Centre-Est region also faces inter- and intra-community conflicts (farmer/breeder conflicts; land conflicts; customary chieftaincy conflicts)

In line with Africalia’s multi-year program, which places culture at the center of human development and makes it a distinctive element of human communities, Africalia uses communication through creativity as a lever for development, with the aim of inducing behavioral changes in targeted populations or audiences. Thus, the use of cultural practices such as theater, radio, photography, and audiovisuals, among others, can prove to be means of communication that allow for the appropriation of development programs by the populations. The key to success lies then in the facility of access and the inclusivity

During the month of March 2021 the activities of the cooperation program started. First, a workshop was initiated in the Kouritenga province of Kouela. This workshop was designed to raise awareness among young people about crime prevention and drug use. This activity included a training phase for the benefit of local artists, a production phase and the creation of a puppet show with 2 themes. One on "Rights and duties of the child in a crisis situation", and the other regarding "fight against drug taking in schools". The activity mobilized 8 puppeteers, under the direction of Athanase KABREL

In Tenkodogo, in the province of Boulgou, 2 activities were carried out and brought to the public of the 3 provinces of the region, through a dissemination tour for each activity. The first activity was the creation of a show of theater-debate (March 19, 2021 to May 5) putting the populations of the Center-East region in confidence with the Defense and Security Forces. This activity was carried out by a dozen actors under the direction of Nongdo OUEDRAOGO, director.

The second activity focused on the creation of a humor show to raise awareness on civic-mindedness, prevention and management of social conflicts (from April 15 to May 22); it mobilized 4 professional comedians and 6 young people from the upstream training, under the direction of Jean-Aimé BAYALA.

in the making :
