Africalia organised a Masterclass on Creative Photography from 13 to 17 February 2017 in Dakar. This training was followed by 15 promising photographers for whom it served as a springboard to progress technically, content wise and prepared them to respond to professional orders in the future.
Only a small number of photography schools exist in Africa. To address this need, Africalia organised a Master class on Creative Photography with the aim to enhance African photographers capacities in taking pictures that are the expression of their identity and ideas. Creative photography is thought-provoking, it awakens the interest of the public and it shines a new light on African realities that are often biased by negative media coverage.
The “Creative Photography” training took place from 13 to 17 February 2017 in Dakar.
In total, there were more than 85 applicants among which a selection of 15 promising photographers was made. They were chosen on the basis of their motivation, background, technical level, perspective and the diversity of their portfolio. The group also included several women.
These 15 participants had some experience in photography but the training served as a springboard for them to progress technically and content wise, which will prepare them to respond to professional orders in the future.
These young photographers come from different sub-Saharan African countries where Africalia works, namely: Burkina Faso, Burundi, DRC and Senegal.
