After two years during which the covid-19 crisis put cultural activities on hold, the Festbuk returned at the end of July. This multidisciplinary festival was initiated by 3 TAMIS, a new partner of Africalia located in the Bukavu region of the DRC.
This 11th edition of the festival saw a succession of cultural events over four days. The theme was "protection", specifically the protection of the most vulnerable in our societies; children, women, the elderly and marginalized people. This notion extended to the preservation of people, cultural goods, and cultural heritage.
On the menu for festival-goers screenings of documentary and fictional films, some of which were shot in the region. The book’s presentation by the poet Guillaume Bukasa relates the reality and discrimination suffered by people with albinism and two exhibitions by two artists. One by Thierry VAHWERE Croco’ aka TV’Croki, a Congolese visual artist on the protection of child victims of armed groups and Neema Kasoki, who demonstrated the hazards that young girls and women face in their lives as a result of abuse.
Fabien Mweze exhibited his photos of superheroes, and traditional music and percussion got the audience dancing. Theatre and slam were also part of the programme with the play mwanamke Simama Useme by Sylvain Kasereka and the slam artist Ester Abumba. The festival ended with a concert by Roi Bayol and Bayol band.
