A few words about your artistic journey

I was trained at the Superior School of Visual Arts in Marrakech. I am the author of several documentaries ; my last fictional short film “FRAGILE ESPOIR”, was in the official selection at FESPACO. Currently, I am developing my next feature film “Quand passent les hirondelles”.

How long have you been an artist ?

Since 2009, with my first documentary film “Une vie de cachot” in 2011. Film that takes a picture of the prison system in Burkina Faso.

Why did you apply for this grant ? How will the grant support you ?

First, this program will give visibility and echo to the contribution of women during this crisis in Burkina. Then, the grant will make it possible to finance the production of multimedia content.

What are your concrete artistic objectives after this residency ?

Continue the development of my next film, "Quand passent les hirondelles"

What did you achieve throughout this creative residency ? What is the result (created work) ? Who was involved in the creation process ?

As part of the "creativity is life" grant, we conducted pre-interviews with women from various social strata to understand the contribution of women in times of crisis such as Covid 19. Then, we conducted interviews with, among others, women garbage collectors from the capital (Ouagadougou), with the Minister of Health and with a mother and activist joker.
We worked with a sound engineer, a chief operator, an editor...

How do you think these activities allow people to reflect on today’s world : regarding the COVID-19 crisis, and/or the shaping of the tomorrow ?

The result of these interviews will allow a better perception of the women’s contribution in times of crisis such as the Covid19.
Women’s rights, already in jeopardy in our countries, have suffered a further setback with this Covid19 crisis. The debate must be led to raise awareness in order to preserve the spaces of freedom that have been dearly acquired.

How did you feel during the residency ? And at the end of it ?

I understood certain realities by talking with the women. Beyond the crisis, women are living a very complex situation linked to social burdens that prove to be difficult to overcome.
I am all the more satisfied with what I have learned from my society than with what I have achieved. It is a singular approach that the grant has allowed me to adopt.
