From May 22nd to 26th, Vooruit in Ghent is organising "The May Events", on all matters ‘revolution’.
Conceived on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of May 1968, "The May Events" articulates a platform for art and discourse –a series of events– gathering artists and researchers whose work is situated in or between the contemporary performative scene, the elaboration of political discourse and the social domain.
The programme developed by Italian curator Silvia Bottiroli focuses more specifically on what is happening outside the Western world. She invites artists such as Boyzie Cekwana (South Africa) and Faka (South Africa), as well as artist-in-residence Nkisi (DRC/Belgium). These artists will be invited to express themselves and debate with local guests from Ghent University or KASK.
"The May Event" consists of several debates, performances, art installations and concerts.
The program is curated in collaboration with the KunstenFestivalDesArts in Brussels and with the research centre S:PAM (Studies in Performing Arts & Media) of Ghent University.
